This is a resort that I’d been wanting to see for some time, so on this trip to Cancun, it was a must! And, WOW…what a WOW factor! The resort is expansive, modern & impeccably clean, 17 bars and restaurants, breathtaking oceanfront views, and exceptional service provided by every staff member.

Entering the property and walking through the lobby, your eyes are immediately drawn to the beautiful azure & turquoise blue waters of Punta Cancun’s peninsula. The water is warm & calm, and the sand is soft and kid-friendly! Because of the resort’s position on this peninsula, guests see spectacular beach Everywhere! The beach area right in front of the resort is smaller, but the “Club” Tower section has it’s own “private beach”, which is way more expansive with plenty of chairs, umbrellas & cabanas in both areas. 3 infinity pools, private piers for romantic dinners, unlimited room service, and 11 ala carte & international dining/buffets are all available on this property.

Between the standard rooms and the “Club” suites at this resort, the “Club” rooms definitely have more space and come with more amenities and well-appointed features. The rooms come with 5 full bottles of liquor- sparkling wine, scotch, tequila, vodka, and rum, along with various other snacks and candies. The views were amazing! I can’t stress that enough! These were spectacular! Since they are so high up, there a total view of our

surroundings. However, most rooms have awesome views of the ocean, but maybe not as superior a view depending on how high up the room is located. It didn’t matter if you were looking out from the balcony (which included a hot tub), from the room, or fromthe bathroom, all provided picturesque views of the resort and the peninsula.

The main pool/quad area is accessible right off the lobby, and boasts several levels of pools, with some areas covered by awnings. There is also a poolside bar that provides drinks and refreshments. Music, performances or cookouts took place at different times of the day. Directly in front of the Club Tower, is another pool area with tiered levels of pools, with consistent water depth throughout each tiered level. A poolside bar available in the patio area of the Club Tower. There is also adults only rooftop pool and bar, which has some totally captivating views, and a kids club, that has a kiddie waterpark along with slides and other activities, for children ages 4-12 only.

The service and dining at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun definitely went above and beyond a normal hotel/resort stay. The resort has 7 ala carte – actual sit-down dining restaurants serving different themed cuisines. Totally 11-12 “food options” available to guests. There is also 24-hour room service, so your “food options” are truly unlimited. La Bastille – French restaurant, El Mercado – buffet, Moongate – contemporary Asian, Tradewinds – grill & steakhouse, 24 Hours – snacks & finger foods, Lorenzo’s – Italian, Habeneros – beach/pool grill, Chevy’s – Classic diner, Pasteles – ice cream fountain, Casa Del Café – coffee shop, Tres Cervezas – sports bar, Club Tower Lounge – snacks/finger foods, Room Service – the best!

The service and dining at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun definitely went above and beyond a normal hotel/resort stay. Truly truly, this resort would provide an amazing and enjoyable time! No matter how long your stay, at Breathless Riviera Cancun, you will not believe it is long enough! I cannot begin to say how impressed we were by this fabulous property. My husband and I stayed in the Xhale club, which was absolutely amazing. Every last detail could not have been more perfect. We loved having the option of having some quiet time in the Xhale Club and then being able to head to the social and freestyle pools when we were ready for more action. The food and bar service at the pool areas was outstanding. We tried to experience as many different restaurants as we could in the short time we were there, and every one of them was fantastic. The pan-Asian was probably our favorite, if we were forced to choose. The entertainment staff was awesome! We performed water aerobics, showed off our dance lessons, and even had an impromptu dance party on the beach. The afternoon festivities at the freestyle pool & the late-night action throughout the resort was a feast for the eyes, to say the least. The fire and water features throughout the property were stunning. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

Love Mexico is all about it!

Love Mexico is all about it! It is a unique educational and networking event, held yearly, developed through a partnership with the Mexico Tourism Board. Love Mexico’s purpose is to showcase Mexico as a premier destination for weddings, honeymoons and romance. The event was packed with seminars, meetings with resorts, appointments with special suppliers, photographers, resort site visits and real experiences of Mexico. I’m proud of my new “Love Mexico Specialist” recognition and designation, that I earned by attending the events and seminars.

Several resorts were part of the Love Mexico experience for me: Royalton Riviera Maya, Royal Hideaway, Playacar Palace, Grand Velas, and Secrets Akumal. We spent a day doing site visits and learning about each property’s wedding offerings.

Playacar Palace, a family friendly property, is a part of the Palace family of resorts…and what an aawesome destination resort experience it offers! Location, location, location is an understatement here. Situated on a great stretch of beach with plenty of walking and swimming possibilities, makes it one of the best choices in Playa del Carmen. And, speaking of Play del Carmen, Playacar Palace is just steps away from the vibrant shopping experience travelers seek in Playa del Carmen – the renowned Playa del Carmen 5th Avenue and the Cozumel Ferry Dock. So, consider Playacar Palace a little”Palace” unto it’s own. “It is a trendy beachfront resort situated in the heart of Playa del Carmen, and it’s easy to see why we “Love Mexico”.

With 201 fabulous rooms, 3 restaurants, and 4 bars, this resort is considered the perfect spot to relax during the day and enjoy the nightlife and charms of “Playa” at night. It is perfect for families, couples, weddings, Honeymoons, and group Getaways. Add to all of this, guest can get up to $1500 in resort credits for excursions, spa, romantic dinners, and even the jewelry store. There is a max. that can be spent at any one time, like $300 in the jewelry store. Guests using resort credits must also pay a tax of 15% for any resort credits used, at check-out. The resort offers so many fun activities, you’ll never have time for them all: 1. soak in the sun at one of the 3 amazing pools or beach 2. workout in a state of the art fitness center 3. kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, and windsurfing 4. live shows nightly 5. outdoor jacuzzi’s 6. ping pong 7. basketball & volleyball 8. beach & pool volleyball 9. Jamaica One Love

Just 6 weeks ago, I traveled to “Jamaica One Love” for a Destination Wedding Symposium at the new Moon Palace Grande Jamaica in Ocho Rios. This by itself was very exciting, but then we would be doing site visits at 15 resorts in Negril, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios! How could we ever cover that much ground? It took stamina and an “I can do it” attitude for Jamaica One Love!

Negril lived up to it’s “best beach” reputation, no doubt about it. I was fortunate to choose two of the best…and on the “best” beaches…Sandals Negril, adults only, and Beaches Negril, a family property. Sandals Negril was wonderful to return to again. Ten years ago, I attended my son & daughter-in-law’s wedding on this very same property! It was just as beautiful as I remembered it! The Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara are vacation destinations with oceanfront dining and a pristine beach on the Caribbean Sea! Find both the Hyatt Ziva (for families) and the Hyatt Zilara (for adults only), right on the same Hyatt property. The Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall just completed a multi-million -dollar renovation, and it is apparent! The property itself, is fabulous with all the amenities and comforts that a seasoned traveler could want. And if it isn’t here, no worries, the Hyatt will take care of it for you. This is a story that a guest (I’ll call him John, and his little boy will be Jack) at the Hyatt related to me during lunch. John brought his family to vacation at the Hyatt Ziva because he believed that with all of the goats in Jamaica, he would be able to obtain goat’s milk for his son, that required this for his diet. After he arrived, to his horror, he discovered that yes, the island has goats, but the government doesn’t allow the use goat milk on the island. So now what would he do? He contacted management, and they immediately sprung into action. Management contacted a firm in Miami that sold and distributed goat’s milk. It was flown to the Hyatt in Jamaica, so that Jack could have the goat’s milk his diet required. Amazing!

Other properties that I absolutely recommend in Montego Bay are: Royalton White Sands, Secrets St. James, Secrets Wild Orchid, and the Iberostar Grand. In Ochos Rios, the properties included Couples Tower Isle and Jewel Paradise Cove. I’ll be glad to share information about them with you.

Lastly, we traveled to Ocho Rios for the Destination Weddings Symposium and more site visits. Do you think I’m worn out yet? No way! We arrived at the new Jamaica Grande Moon Palace for the remainder of our stay. This resort is only 5 minutes from downtown Ocho Rios, sits in a beautiful bay, and straddles the Caribbean Sea on one side. It’s the best of both worlds to have a quiet bay to play in kayaks, sun-fish, snorkel, etc., and then have access to the ocean right next to the resort. The resort’s luxurious accommodations and breathtaking views can happen from 705 rooms and suites, that feature 24 hour room service, free WiFi access, top-shelf drinks, and unlimited other amenities and features. Your benefits don’t stop there! Up to $1500 in resort credits are part of the benefits for guests. These credits can be used for spa, excursions & tours, private romantic dinners, and more. These credits vary in accordance with the length of a guest’s stay and are subject to a 16% service fee on all products and services. How much of a good thing can you handle?

The brand new resort, Secrets Playa Mujeres, is a glittering gem in the Caribbean! I was fortunate to stay at Secrets Playa Mujeres for a week in February and found it to be amazing! The resort is set along the famous white sand beaches of Playa Mujeres, across from Isla Las Mujeres, and just about 30 minutes from the Cancun Airport. It’s location is prime, being adjacent to an 18 hole signature Greg Norman golf course, and in close proximity to downtown Cancun and shopping centers. This Adults-only, Unlimited-Luxury Resort, exceeded my expectations, and included every single amenity that I would want to find in such a world-class destination. Stunning ocean views are visible from every room category in this amazing resort, as it graces the front of the privileged gated community of Playa Mujeres. Unlimited-Luxury Inclusions are so many: Free WiFi and International calling with Unlimited Connectivity, Nine gourmet restaurants – five a la carte, a buffet, a cafe and 2 grills, seven chic bars & lounges – including one swim-up bar, 24 hour room and concierge services, turn-down service, complimentary mini-bar refreshed daily, unlimited premium drinks, pool and beach wait service, state of the art fitness center, tennis courts, sparkling pools, outdoor lounge area, outdoor jacuzzi, Secrets Spa by Pevonia (fee), complimentary green fees, non-motorized water sports, Preferred club privileges, and all taxes and gratuities.

The employees at Secrets Playa Mujeres were exceptional – everyone that one might encounter – front desk, drivers, bartenders, waiters, room service, bell desk, maid service, and the maintenance crew were always friendly and on top of their jobs. Especially enjoyable was to talk to the personnel and get to know a little about their lives. The smiles on their faces and excellent service showed how much they appreciated someone taking an interest. We never had to wait long for service at the bars, restaurants or at the pool. Employees appreciated tips, and they remembered our names, our favorite chair, drink, etc. The golf cart rides between the restaurants, lobby and rooms was always an enjoyable ride because of the conversation with the drivers. When we would be lucky to “get” one of our newfound friends a second time, it was always fun catching up on what we had been enjoying at the resort, or other information about the area.

The pool and beach had picturesque breathtaking views of the water surrounding the resort. We were able to find an excellent location at the pool each day and found that our most enjoyable time was in the morning, before most of the activity got going for the day. The pool concierge were very helpful in finding chair locations if it was a busier, full time. Pool and beach service was frequent for whatever our needs were. They did not want anyone to get dehydrated! Towels were always in abundance, and the beach was amazing! There was always a perfect breeze, but the ocean in February, was colder than what I had anticipated. The seaweed didn’t seem to be that bad, once you got past the bit at the water’s edge, it became clear. The beach did need to be cleared constantly, in order to keep up with the constantly growing piles.

The restaurants were outstanding in both their service and quality of food. The French Restaurant, Bordeaux, was phenomenal for the lobster and escargot. The waiters always did so much above and beyond to try to please you…impeccable service! We also had dinner in the Japanese Restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the Teppanyaki performance and taste of the meal. Oceana, Italian, Seaside Grill, and Portofino were all excellent, as well. I was fully impressed with how attentive the staff was upon a guest’s arrival at a restaurant. They always asked if you had any food allergies, and if you needed any special accommodations for allergy free. What a change for Mexico! Guests with gluten-free or lactose intolerant digestive systems could certainly be comfortable here! Always in the past, on other trips to Mexico, we enjoyed the breakfast buffet every single day, especially the wide variety of food options. At Secrets Playa Mujeres, we tried room service for breakfast one day, and then never went back to the breakfast buffet. Room service was amazing! The service was prompt, timely, temperature perfect, always everything we needed…including ketchup, salt, butter, cream, etc. I highly recommend it!

We were extremely pleased with our stay at Secrets Playa Mujeres and found it to be a glittering gem in the Caribbean. Will it be one for you?

What New Resorts are in Riviera Maya, Mexico (and updates, too)? What an amazing trip to Cancun! Just two weeks ago, I traveled to Riviera Maya, Mexico to complete site visits of New Resorts in Riviera Maya, and to get updates at other resorts. This post will cover part 1, or the first day of site visits.

Valentin Imperial Maya – Puerto Morelos – Resort Update – On a half-mile-long stretch of pearlescent beach named Playa Del Secreto (The Secret Beach), the adults-only, 540 suite, all-inclusive Valentin Imperial Maya has one of the largest swimming pools in Mexico. The location is centrally ideal, in Puerto Morelos, as travelers can easily reach Cancun and the world-famous Mayan archaeological sites of Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itza, as well as the popular excursions of Xel-Ha and XCaret.

Wait service is offered to all guests at the 3 pools on the property, with a swim-up bar. Bali beds are available on a first come, first serve basis. The sports bar boasts pool tables, and big screen TVs. In the lobby, don’t miss the San Miquel piano bar, where tea time is held from 4:00 – 6:00 daily.At this resort, fine dining is part of the all-inclusive vacation, so why not treat your palate to a culinary adventure in the 7 a la carte restaurants & buffet? This is an opening that I’m really intrigued by–The Baha Mar Resort, opening in December in the Bahamas, with no less than FIVE different hotel brands inside. Talk about BIG!

The complex, nicknamed the “Bahamian Riviera”, has these credentials: will have a total of 2,900 hotel rooms and residences, a 100,000 square foot casino, a Vegas-style water show, an 18-hole, 72-par Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, an ESPA spa and more than a dozen pools. Plus, a 200,000 square feet convention center. I know, HUGELY!The 5 resorts that are going to debut:

Baha Mar Casino & Hotel: The centerpiece resort of Baha Mar, this casino-hotel is promising a “Vegas-like experience in the Bahamas.

Rosewood Baha Mar: Managed by Rosewood, this will be a 200-room and residences property. The villas will be the main attraction for it’s luxury items, services, and accomodations.

Mondrian Baha Mar: The Mondrian at Baha Mar will have 300 “distinctively styled room.”

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar: The Grand Hyatt will have 700 “incomparable rooms blending authenticity and luxury.”

Melia’ Baha Mar: The Nassau Beach Resort will be taken over and incorporated into the Baha Mar Complex by the Melia’ brand on December 1st. This will be the only Caribbean All-Inclusive Resort in the complex, with 5 restaurants & 3 bars, including a swim-up bar. The guests have access to Baha Mar’s amenities and activities.

Sharing my travel with you…

Just two weeks ago, I traveled to Cancun/Riviera Maya to do a “hard hat” site visit of the brand new adults only, Secrets Playa Mujeres. I knew this new resort was going to be incredible, but I didn’t realize just how totally captivating it would be. The natural splendor mingles with the architectural beauty to mesmerize every part of you. What are the priorities & features in a resort that you ask for when you begin to look for your next destination?

First though, I wanted to know more about Playa Mujeres…Where is it? What excursions can vacationers experience? What are the beaches like? What resorts are there besides Secrets Playa Mujeres?

Landscape rich in wildlife & greenery

On one side of Secrets Playa Mujeres is the Mexican Caribbean and on the other is a wetlands wildlife preserve. The area is totally removed from the Cancun commercialism. It’s an untouched landscape, rich with the beauty of wildlife and greenery. There are not many resorts located here, yet, but you will find Secrets Playa Mujeres, Excellence, The Beloved, and Villa del Palmar.
Secrets Playa Mujeres is only about a 30 minute ride North of the Airport.

Across the water is Isla Las Mujeres, Isle of Women, named after the statues that were found on the island by the Spanish. A short ferry ride from Playa Mujeres/Cancun will bring you to this island and small town where you will find excellent shopping, great restaurants and fantastic beaches. The most common mode of transportation is golf carts/mo-peds. It would not be difficult to find activities to fill an entire day here – enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, zip lining, turtle farming, swimming with dolphins, and investigating the Mayan ruins.

Scuba diving or Snorkeling

The excursions that will be available from Secrets Playa Mujeres, are all of the excursions that you would be able to access in Cancun.
*Explore sacred Mayan archeological sites – the ruins of Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itza. On one of your trips to Cancun, plan to see what has been declared one of the “7 Modern Wonders of the World – Chichen Itza”.
*Swim with dolphins, sea lions and manatees.
*Zip line through the Yucatan jungle, or over the Caribbean sea.
*Swim in one of the famous cenotes, which are 5 million year old wells, formed from sinkholes.
*Snorkel or scuba dive at the Great Mayan Reef, the largest coral reef in the Northern Hemisphere.
*Pet a shark, snuba (snorkeling and scuba combo).
*Visit an actual Mayan jungle village, Pac-Chen, to experience ancient traditions.
*Ride a jet ski, parasail, or the newest water gizmo.
*Shop at flea markets, designer boutiques, outlet stores, or handmade artisan shops.
*Enjoy and evening performance by Michael Jackson, or a Mayan fire dance.
*What other excursions can you imagine doing?

The Secrets Playa Mujeres that I viewed was a work in progress. If you can imagine, stone work being cut and laid (and stone dust flying everywhere), walkways being poured, workers sweeping up to try to keep the layers of dirt to a minimum, wood inlays being cut & placed, pipes being installed, tests being run, and a very hot sun on a humid day.
I loved seeing the stone and marble work being done. I was told that the Egyptian Marble was shipped here from Egypt! It added a grandeur, mythical and mysterious feel to work in progress.
We, Claudia, my husband, and I roamed around and investigated the property for about 2 hours.

After we finished that tour, I’ve thought a lot about what was so captivating about this property.

Junior Suite Oceanview

1. First, every room category at this resort will have a view of the ocean…even the entry levels. The Preferred Junior suites sit within a stone’s throw of the beach and water.
2. Next, your first view of a suite, is the elegant and massive suite door. It’s statement to you, “you are welcome to enter!” The room finish is in a rich dark mahogany type wood furniture and appointed with ivory, tan, and brown. All beautiful against the Azul blue waters of the ocean just outside your balcony.
3. The beach (unfinished) looks like it is going to be a fabulous long ribbon where, someday, vacationers will walk it’s long stretches. It is protected somewhat, by the Isla Las Mujeres, just across the bay from it’s shores. The sand is soft beige tones and feels almost like powder between your toes.

4. This resort has 2 beautiful, captivating swimming pools…the alluring infinity pool, and the other is a free form, relaxing natural shape that appeals to and creates a feeling of calm and quiet.

5. Secrets Playa Mujeres will boast 8 exceptional dining choices when complete. One for each night of your stay!

6. Rendezvous and Showtime will serve top-shelf spirits and present nightly entertainment and nightclub options.

And finally… 7. The personnel that I met and spoke to, seem to be very warm, interested, and involved individuals. One of them was the General Manager, Ricardo Bravo. Even tho he was extremely busy, he took the time to talk to me about his resort and the upcoming opening. He was interested in the questions that I had and took time to make sure that my tour was complete.

The resort wedding coordinator, Claudia , actually gave me the tour of the resort. She had a bubbly, happy and warm personality. Every time she talked about Secrets Playa Mujeres, she would just beam with pride. Both she and the General Manager worked together previously at a Dreams property, so they seemed to come together perfectly to make this resort have the cohesiveness that it needs from the personnel that will be hired. They assured me that most of the personnel will come from other Secrets and Dreams properties.

This new and upcoming area in Playa Mujeres, seems to be the likely expansion direction of Cancun – North. Being so close to the airport, offering beautiful beaches and a wide range of activities and excursions, should only lead to it being one more great choice in destinations for travelers. I’m going back to Secrets Playa Mujeres to stay for a full week in February, to see how it’s changed, and if it lives up to my expectations. I’ll be back with an update then!
